Karel Poborsky - the Czech winger (Video)

The long haired Czech winger was signed by Manchester United in the summer of 1996, just after the European Championship came to a conclusion. He was a skilful and technically decent player who is usually remembered for scoring a famous lob goal against Portugal in the quarter-finals of Euro 96. Sir Alex Ferguson saw attributes that he liked and had it not been for David Beckham's arrival and subsequent performances on the right side of midfield then he might have spent longer at Old Trafford.

Will Lewandoski be joining Dortmund's conquerors? (video)

Bayern Munich’s 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League was embroidered with so many sub-texts, such as Jupp Heynckes’ Bayern farewell before handing over to Pep Guardiola, and the grudge match as Dortmund attempted to avenge their German Cup defeat from earlier this season. Perhaps most intriguingly of all, is the rumour that Bayern are planning an audacious swoop for Dortmund striker Robert Lewandoski.

Monaco return to top flight football and intend to stay (Video)

Claudio Ranieri has guided AS Monaco back to French top flight football after a season spent languishing in the second tier. Ambitious plans are now being set out for the future development of the club, with star names such as Falcao being linked with the side from the principality. It seems a long time since Didier Deschamps took them all the way to the 2004 Champions League final and a lot has happened in the intervening years. What will the next decade have in store for the club?

Can Atletico really challenge for La Liga?

After Atletico Madrid managed to overcome Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final, can they move on from here and become a regular competitor to their cross-town rivals and Catalan's finest side? This season they have done well in the league and are assured of third place with three games left to play. However, they still trail their neighbours by nine points and champions Barcelona by 19 points. Diego Simeone needs to somehow close this gap if he harbours serious title aspirations.

Do you remember? Filippo Inzaghi (Video)

Perhaps one of the most infuriating strikers to ever play the game, due to his frequent ability to be caught offside on a regular basis, but also one of the best goal poachers that football has ever seen. This is how many people would sum up the career of ex-Juventus, Milan and Italy striker Filippo Inzaghi. He formed a deadly partnership with Alessandro Del Piero during the late 90's and new millennium and was loved by fans of Juventus whilst despised by opposition supporters.

Batigol - Fiorentina's lethal finisher (Video)

Gabriel Batistuta was one of the finest strikers of his generation. Not only did he look like Jesus, with long flowing hair and a rugged beard, but at times he also played like he had been blessed from above. Accompanied by Manuel Rui Costa in an otherwise unforgettable Fiorentina team, his goals led them to Champions League football and several top six league finishes.

    Paul Scholes' final farewell

Whilst Sir Alex Ferguson has taken all of the headlines regarding his impending retirement as manager of Manchester United, another man is also about to call time upon his Old Trafford career. Quiet, media shy and always keen to avoid the spotlight; Paul Scholes is the third highest appearance holder at the club and has blossomed into one of the finest midfielders in the world under the tutelage of his boss. Now he is set to bow out in just the way he would want; without a lot of fuss made over him and with a Premier League medal to add to his impressive collection.

Moyes was the sensible option for Manchester United job

I think Gary Lineker worded it best when asked what he thought about the appointment of David Moyes as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor at Old Trafford; 'it's a sensible option'.

Barcelona ready to offer big money for centre-back (Video)

Barcelona are in the market for some defenders this summer, particularly now that Carles Puyol is coming towards the end of his career and Eric Abidal continues to make steady recovery from a liver transplant. Gerard Pique is their only other recognised central defender, with Javier Mascherano and Sergio Busquets often filling in alongside the former Manchester United player as and when required. Who looks likely to join the Catalan squad for next season and will Tito Vilanova decide on actually purchasing a defender rather than trying to convert a midfielder?
