Why Barcelona Will Stagnate After Transfer Ban

The legendary Carles Puyol is hanging up his boots after the World Cup this summer, so Barcelona have renewed their interest in Chelsea’s David Luiz as a long term replacement, apparently.
According to the Daily Telegraph Barcelona have reignited their interest in Chelsea’s Brazilian defender David Luiz, following Carles Puyol’s announcement yesterday that he will leave the Camp Nou.
Barcelona are in desperate need of a new central defender for the new season as they only have 2 established centre backs. There is no denying that Pique and Puyol are both talented players but while Carles Puyol struggles to stay fit they rely heavily on Javier Mascherano to fill the void.
Barcelona are in the market for some defenders this summer, particularly now that Carles Puyol is coming towards the end of his career and Eric Abidal continues to make steady recovery from a liver transplant. Gerard Pique is their only other recognised central defender, with Javier Mascherano and Sergio Busquets often filling in alongside the former Manchester United player as and when required. Who looks likely to join the Catalan squad for next season and will Tito Vilanova decide on actually purchasing a defender rather than trying to convert a midfielder?
With all the talk about the shift of the European centre of gravity to Germany from Spain, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the Primera Liga big guns have won nothing in Europe for decades.
Don't shoot the messenger.
I know that whenever rumours or transfer gossip is uploaded on here, the fans of the club concerned throw buckets of abuse (Arsenal fans)
It is all looking good and rosy for Barcelona again as they sit at the summit of La Liga and have won three from three in the Champions League group stages. They are unbeaten in all competitions this season and look to be performing well under new coach Tito Vilanova.
One of the hardest questions I have ever been asked, in terms of football, was this:
‘Who has the better squad, Barcelona or Real Madrid?’
The past four years for Barcelona have been nothing short of mesmerising. Move and move, pass after pass, goal after goal; everything about them was exceptional.
