Chelsea Football Club - success amid chaos

Branislav Ivanovic's last minute winner against Benfica in the Europa League final provided the west London club with a European trophy for a second successive year.

It has been a tumultuous season for Chelsea with Roberto di Matteo's dismissal causing unrest amongst the their fans and then the subsequent appointment of interim manager Rafael Benitez prompting further backlash.

It appears, though, that Benitez has secure the last laugh as he has delivered Roman Abramovich with Europa League triumph and qualification for next year's Champions League. Abramovich's fire first ask questions later style has brought with it criticism but the proof is in the pudding, as they say, and the Russian owner has delivered numerous successes since taking over in 2003.

The chaos and toxic atmosphere that has surrounded Chelsea throughout this long season has to be unwelcome but the fans will not care as each season their team bring back some sort of silverware to Stamford Bridge.

In comparison Arsenal, who are crying out for any sort of trophy to end their drought, have shown dedication to Arsene Wenger and the style in which the club is run. How frustrating it must be then to see Chelsea, their London rivals, year after year appear to be a club run by a ruthless owner who brings discourse yet win so consistently.

The manner in which the club conducts its business may not be to everyone's taste but Chelsea's trophy cabinet does not lie as they prove that amid the chaos and manager changes success has been found.
