Why Barcelona Will Stagnate After Transfer Ban

Barcelona and the Spanish Football Federation have been charged by the Fifa Disciplinary Committee, for breaches relating to minor players registration and transfer. This is a big problem.

Fifa’s Disciplinary Committee have sanctioned FC Barcelona with a two year ban from national and international transfer windows and fined the Spanish Federation €500,000.

Fifa have said that the Catalan club have been found in breach of article 19 of their regulations in the case of ten minor players. It is the latest scandal in a very disruptive season for Barcelona so far.

With the rise of Atletico in the title race, the problem with Martino’s style of play and the major incident involving Neymar’s contract which saw President Sandro Rosell step down.

This transfer ban could not come at a worse time for the Catalan club. They are in desperate need of fresh faces and some old faces departing.

Goalkeeper Victor Valdes has already said he is leaving but now that he is ruled out for seven months with a cruciate ligament injury does that mean Barcelona will ask him to stay on and do his rehab with them?

The biggest problem for Barcelona is the centre of defence, and legendary Captain Carles Puyol has already said he is moving on in the summer.

That will leave Gerard Pique and Marc Bartra as the two recognised centre-backs, with Mascherano filling in. But as we have seen against the top teams Mascherano is no centre-back.

Worrying times in Catalonia. We will have to wait and see how this situation unfolds.
