The little Uruguayan has been followed by scrutiny wherever he has been in his career, whether it be biting opponents or being accused of racism, there are a huge amount of people who despise the Liverpool striker.

However, the rest of us who admire him for his talent on the field have been treated to a brilliant season from the forward. He has carried the entire Reds team on his back at times this campaign, and if Brendan Rodgers cannot convince him to stay on at the club next season then they could be in big trouble.

    Top5 - Number 3: Daniel Agger

    Games played: 31

    Goals: 2

    Average Shot Accuracy: 39%

    Chances Created: 10

    Pass Accuracy: 89%

    Average Duels Won: 63%

In my opinion, Agger has been one of those who have benefited greatly from Brendan Rodgers' change in philosophy. You can see how by his passing accuracy how comfortable the Dane is with the ball at his feet, and he has made just one mistake in his 31 appearances this season.

Agger is now 28-years-old and will have to start thinking about whether or not he wants to stay and be part of Liverpool's changing period or seek pastures new and fins a club with a greater chance of winning silverware.

Those in the Anfield kop will be hoping it is the former.

The former Chelsea right-back has been slaughtered at times in the last few years as a result of his dodgy defending, but he has had a season to remember this year under Brendan Rodgers. You can find Johnson bombing down the flanks during a game, whipping dangerous deliveries into the opposition area.

He has also stiffened up his defensive positioning, something which has caused him problems in the past. He has the speed to roam, but also has the power and accuracy in his shot to be a major threat in the more attacking areas.

Ask anyone who has come up against him this season on his performance and they will tell you how strong he has been.

    Top5 - Number 5: Stuart Downing

    Average Shot Accuracy: 29%

    Chances Created: 51

    Pass Accuracy: 84%

    Average Duels Won: 55%

Stuart Downing has become a bit of a joke since his move to Merseyside. Last season, a season where he went the entire campaign without a single goal or assist, is often brought up in discussion to insult and mock at the former Aston Villa wideman.

However, Downing has really progressed as a player this year. He seems to have gained an immense amount of confidence as a result in the change of manager and style of play, and it has seen the doubters stopped laughing and take real note.

Renowned as an unpredictable player, the 29-year-old's three goals have all been scored with different body parts - one head, one right foot, one left foot.

    Top5 - Number 1: Gareth Bale

    Games played: 27

    Goals: 17

    Average Shot Accuracy: 57%

    Chances Created: 65

    Pass Accuracy: 77%

    Average Duels Won: 49%

Since the turn of the new year, Bale has been drawing comparisons of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo. Few were surprised, though, as the Welshman has been in blistering form. He has single handedly turned games for Spurs this season and the supporters' hopes for a top four finish were dealt a blow when the winger was ruled out for the next few weeks with an ankle injury.

He possess such power, such speed, and such willingness to run at opponents that he has put himself in the frame for player of the year.

I'm sure Luis Suarez, Robin van Persie and Juan Mata will have something to say about that, though.

Some frowned when the Belgian was signed in the summer from Fulham, noting that he didn't have the creativity of the man he was ultimately replacing - Luka Modric.

However, he quickly silenced the doubters with his impeccable performances in the early stages of the season. His form did take a nosedive, but he is now proving to be one of Spurs' most important players in the middle of the pitch.

Dembele is blessed with technical brilliance, and will only get better given the game time with Tottenham.

    Average Shot Accuracy: 53%

    Chances Created: 20

    Pass Accuracy: 86%

    Average Duels Won: 67%

The big Belgian has been in spectacular form in his debut season for Spurs. Despite his lanky 6ft2 frame, Vertonghen has the technical ability of someone you'd expect half his size. He can pass, he can cross, he can dribble, he can shoot - a combined collection rare in defenders.

He has continually proved his worth to Andre Villas-Boas and apart from a few games in which he has not performed, the former Ajax man has been nothing short of excellent.

He has formed a remarkable partnership with England centre-back Michael Dawson, whether it be at left-back or in a central role, and at 26-years-old fans of the White Hart Lane outfit will be hoping he has a long time left at the club.

    Pass Accuracy: 84%

    Average Duels Won: 56%

With his whippet-like speed and his deadly deliveries, Aaron Lennon has been a major part of Spurs' midfield for years now. There are few who can catch the nippy winger when he gets his little legs going, and that is a major benefit for the England man when he tracks back.

Whether it be on the right or the left, Lennon terrorises opponents down the flanks. He has been instrumental to the Spurs attacks this year due to AVB's preferred sole striker role and his focus on the wingers.

Sandro was in arguably the form of his life before he was sidelined with a knee injury which will keep him out for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old has really been a lynchpin in the Lilywhites' midfield this campaign. His bullish and boisterous ways have made it impossible for teams to get past the Brazilian, and his eye for a pass has also provided his teammates with numerous opportunities.

Renowned for his crazy hair and his choice to wear a gum shield, Sandro is quickly becoming a favourite at Spurs.

Leighton Baines - possibly the most talked about defender in the Premier League. He is going about his business with such quality that he is being demanded into the England team by the fans in place of one of the greatest left-backs the country has ever seen, Ashley Cole.

He is the perfect wing-back. His speed allows his to burst up and down the flanks, combining with his midfield before whipping balls into the box for his strikers. You can see by his incredible amount of chances he has created how important he has been for the Toffees this term.
