The big Belgian has been in spectacular form in his debut season for Spurs. Despite his lanky 6ft2 frame, Vertonghen has the technical ability of someone you'd expect half his size. He can pass, he can cross, he can dribble, he can shoot - a combined collection rare in defenders.

He has continually proved his worth to Andre Villas-Boas and apart from a few games in which he has not performed, the former Ajax man has been nothing short of excellent.

He has formed a remarkable partnership with England centre-back Michael Dawson, whether it be at left-back or in a central role, and at 26-years-old fans of the White Hart Lane outfit will be hoping he has a long time left at the club.
