    Good on you, Paul Sturrock

It was news that shocked and appalled Southend United fans last week when it emerged that Paul Sturrock had been shown the exit door at Roots Hall.

Chelsea set for lower league task

For me the FA Cup doesn’t get going until the big boys are introduced in the 3rd round and now that’s happened and the 4th round draw has been drawn, throwing up some ties the minnows will be looking forward to.

Young Liver bird showing the rest how it’s done (Video)

It hasn’t been a season for Liverpool fans to shout about so far. The Reds have yet to register a win and are slowly falling behind the rest of the team’s pushing for a place in Europe next year.

    Player in focus: Raheem Sterling

When I was told a few years back to ‘remember the name of Raheem Sterling’, I casually noted it down in my mental diary of ones to watch in the future. However, little did I know Sterling would progress so quickly in such a minute space of time, and is now beating full-backs for fun in the Premier League.

    Interview: Drewe Broughton

When the BBC text information service Ceefax finally closed its doors in April 2012 it prompted a wave of nostalgia across television, radio and online. Social networking site Twitter started to trend a topic called 'memories of Ceefax', and in amongst the recollections of Boggle and cheap package holidays there were numerous football anecdotes. Last minute winners, promotions, relegations - they were all there. I myself contributed two personal reminiscences:

    Shrimps: Bouncebackability

So after 4 straight defeats on the spin, which included exiting two Cup competitions (FA and JPT), the mighty Shrimpers seemed to have bounced back by taking 7 points out of the last available 9.

    Back To My (Grass) Roots

So with the mighty Shrimpers away at Preston in the FA Cup First Round proper on Saturday, I decided to fulfill my football fix last week by heading along to my local non-League club Great Wakering Rovers and watch them take on Chelmsford City in the Essex Senior Cup on Wednesday night.

    All Smiles by the Seaside

Blimey. After my last blog praising the mighty Shrimpers and how they sit proudly at the top of Npower League 2 I fully expected it to be the kiss of death and they would come crashing down quicker than a kid who's eaten too many Halloween sweets.

Top of the League - We Are Indeed Having a Laugh

So the mighty Shrimpers sit proudly at the top of Npower League 2 (albeit on goal difference).  4 wins in a row, 10 goals scored, none conceded - that's promotion winning form.

    Championship Round Up

I have to say, Leon Clarke’s hat-trick for Chesterfield against Carlisle did make me smile. My joy for Clarke had nothing to do with any personal feelings towards the on-loan striker, it was more a case of how it went down with his parent club Swindon Town.

Splash the Cash Arsene - Or Give It To Us!

So the 'Fabregas Saga' has finally and boringly come to a close ( although the Nasri one may still rumble on longer ), Eboue has gone and Arsene Wenger has now amassed a pretty impressive war chest to spend on new signings. And after a dismal home defeat to Liverpool, and yet another red card, he may have to splash the cash quicker than he anticipated to bolster his suspension hit squad.

    The Golden Oldies

Southend's youth team manager Ricky Duncan was our gaffer and he led us through some basic warm-ups, sorted out positions and corner & free kick takers. Yeah, like we would get far enough up the pitch to win a corner!

    Meeting Your Heroes

They say in life you should never meet your heroes, as you'll more often than not be crushingly disappointed with how arrogant / rude / ignorant etc they may turn out to be. It's best to admire them from afar so your initial preconception of them is kept intact; your illusion is never shattered.

    It's All About the Money?

Tevez...........Fabregas.........will they….....won't they……Is it just me who wants these so called 'transfer sagas' to end? I don't think I can take much more.
