How far can the Hammers go?

Fancied to win the Championship title for much of last season, West Ham ultimately had to fight their way through the play-offs to achieve promotion straight back to the Premier League.

Five at the back? Why not

When I saw the team sheets for the Chelsea vs Liverpool game and that Brendan Rodgers had decided to deploy five at the back I predicted the game to be one way traffic.

Can Wigan topple the Reds at Anfield again?

Whilst some people may believe Wigan Athletic have outstayed their welcome in the Premier League, the club continues to prove why they deserve their place in the top flight each year.  However, they do this by not only securing a place within the top 17 of England’s first division, but also by pulling off some quite extraordinary results.

    Boing Boing Baggies

It’s been a long and winding road for West Brom fans.

A heroic promotion charge one season was often followed by relegation the next. The West Midlands club just couldn’t seem to stay in the Premier League.

    Figueroa beauties (Video)

Remember when Wigan's left back scored Maynor Figueroa scored that incredible goal in 2009 from inside is own half? That was ridiculous. Figueroa has been a regular starter for Wigan going on nearly four years and he does a decent enough job. I think it would be fair to say that manager Roberto Martinez gets the best out of him.

    Kneesy does it for Jimmy

So much potential, so little fulfilled. I believe this is a short but accurate reflection on the career of Jimmy Bullard who has recently announced his retirement from the professional game, aged 33.

    Tip top Al Habsi

In Wigan's game against Stoke earlier this, Ali Al-Habsi made what will probably end up being save of the season. Late in the game, Stoke had a free-kick just outside Wigan's box and up stepped Charlie Adam.

Adam hit the ball well enough but it took a deflection and Al-Habsi was able to shift his body weight in mid-air and get a hand to ball to punch it away, preserving a point for his team.

I have long believed that Al-Habsi is one of the top three goalkeepers in the Premier League and it is only a matter of time until a big club comes calling.

Always such a consistent performer, here are the best bits from his excellent 2011/12 season.

Premier League talking points: six weeks in

It's good to have it back isn't it? Even with the European Championships this summer I still found myself craving the drama and excitement of the Premier League. So, how's it all looking after six weeks and six games in? Well, one thing we still know for sure; John Terry is still a loathsome moron who no one likes with a reputation that is now, if it wasn't before, irrecovably tarnished. Gutted.
