Having only made the substitute bench last time out, the influential Spaniard was restored to the starting XI by Arsene Wenger on Saturday, an opportunity he took with open arms as an excellent all-round display helped the Gunners recover from that opening day defeat to Aston Villa.
It’s hard for many to argue the toss for the Tigers survival hopes this campaign. A comprehensive 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday was their first match in the top flight for three years, and a lot has changed since then. Not least the increased amount of cash available to clubs, notably from sides hoping to cling onto their Premier League status.
With a poor performance against Scotland the other night from Steven Gerrard, it got me wondering - can we (England) afford to drop our captain for another player, and if so, is there anyone able to replace him with?
