Tottenham man in need of first-team football (Video)

Tom Huddlestone could be on the move this summer, but just how would leaving Spurs affect the midfielder’s career?

One of those players who seem to have been around forever, Huddlestone began his professional career at Derby County.  He had previously been released by hometown club Nottingham Forest at the age of 12, who claimed the youngster was “not strong enough”.  Just four years later, he would put in a man-of-the-match display on his full debut for the Rams in a league defeat to Stoke City.

In 2005, Tottenham paid a fee reported to be around £2.5 million for an 18-year-old Huddlestone, who had shown plenty of promise during his initial 18 months with Derby.  He would feature regularly for Spurs from 2006, enjoying his best run of games in the 2009/10 season under Harry Redknapp.  Since then, however, injury has hampered his progress, with the midfielder now finding himself on the fringes of Andre Villas-Boas’ team.

Having gathered plenty of European experience during his time at White Hart Lane, there is no question that Huddlestone would be an attractive proposition to many Premier League sides.  His 32 appearances for England under-21s do not correspond with only four caps for the senior team, something he will want to gain more of by making his club’s starting lineup regularly.

At only 26 years of age, Huddlestone will feel has a lot left to prove.  Whilst he still has plenty of time to prove it, all he needs now is an opportunity.
