As we start a new week, here is a look back at the talking points this weekend from the Championship, League One and League Two.
One thing that is always certain in Premier League season is managerial sackings. After Paulo Di Canio’s dismissal, I take a look at five managers under pressure in the Football League.
It's that time again - here are the talking points from this weekend's Football League.
Accrington Stanley are the bookmakers favourite to face a drop into non-league this season, but at 9/2 with Ladbrokes and 4/1 among many others in the market, does this show the old Division 3 to be unpredictable – possibly even something worth keeping an eye on over the next nine months?
Following two consecutive postponements due to the snow, it was nice to be offered a choice of three matches for my return to Sky Sports Soccer Saturday.
I'm gaining a reputation for FA Cup shock results on Sky Sports.
There's usually a point in the season when short sleeves and a pair of trousers are inappropriate for wearing at a football match, it's too cold for that attire!
Over the years I've learned not to turn Sky Sports down whenever they offer me work. But there are rare occasions when I've just had to say 'Sorry, No, I can't do it'.
On 31st January 2011 the British transfer record was smashed by Chelsea, signing Fernando Torres for £50million on a five-and-a-half year contract. That same day Andy Carroll’s move from Newcastle to Liverpool for £35million made him the most expensive British footballer in the game.
Hartlepool nil Huddersfield nil. Goalscoring opportunities nil (or at least it felt like that!). Entertainment nil. Reports on Sky nil. Hours driving to and from the game a lot more than nil. Ticket price nil. Money earned more than nil. And it's those last two which I try to remember on days like this.
One of the bonuses of not covering a Premier League match for Sky is that there aren't too many foreign players on view. I've got nothing against overseas footballers, it's just that some of them have outrageous long names, which can make even the most competent broadcasters sound like tong-tied idiots.
It's good fun watching Jeff Stelling's team, it's easy to park near Victoria Park and the media get some half time grub, but the big issue is that it's at least a three-hour trip to get there. And when it's a mid-week match, double the trouble!
“Jelleyman has thrown a wobbly” is just one of things I am looking forward to hearing over the next football season. If you do not know what I am going on about then I am not sure that I consider you a true football fan, either that or you don’t have Sky.
Ahead of the new season I made a rare visit to Sky's offices and bumped into a bloke by the name of Jeff Stelling.
