Diary of a Sky Soccer Saturday Reporter

There's usually a point in the season when short sleeves and a pair of trousers are inappropriate for wearing at a football match, it's too cold for that attire!

The key is trying to anticipate when that day will arrive. Unfortunately, I have failed to do that almost every season since I start football reporting.

I thought I'd got it spot on earlier this year when I donned a coat, gloves and wooly hat for a mid-week trip to the seaside wind tunnel known as Hartlepool United. However, to my surprise it was actually quite mild in the north east so the thermals went back in the wardrobe... until Saturday! Or at least I should have wore them this weekend, but I didn't realise winter had come a few weeks early and was left in my 'summer' gear!

On these occasions, the thing you hope for is that the match you are sent to is an absolute cracker and you are kept entertained throughout the 90 minutes, for example Chelsea versus Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime.

So what game did I have?... Shrewsbury 0 AFC Wimbledon 0.
