5 Surprise Contenders For Player Of The Year

This is a list that basically just evaluates which players have particularly stood out when we as fans didn't think they would. It's perhaps too early to talk of player of the season nominations, but it's a headline that people would be more attracted to than '5 players I feel are doing well so far'. Anyway, that's not important. What is important is the players I feel deserve to go on this list. Obviously there are players that will be nominated that won't make this list, the likes of Robin van Persie, Sergio Aguero and Luis Suarez, but I'm confident that if these players maintain their current form then they will be in with a chance.

When it comes to January and the transfer window opens again, the excitement isn't as great as it is in the summer, despite the fact that any player could move in that month. I've compiled a three man list of strikers that could make the January 2014 transfer window the best ever.

Olivier Giroud is having a fine season this time round. Despite being written off before he had even kicked a ball this season, the Frenchman has struck eight goals in 17 games and has looked thoroughly impressive throughout.

A Closer Look At How Phil Jones Made Life Difficult For Arsenal

Arsenal travelled to Manchester United today to take on the reigning champions in their bid to become, well, champions. The Gunners came into the game sitting pretty at the top after 10 games but a Robin van Persie header in the first half sent a blow to Arsene Wenger's title hopes. For me, there was a standout player in the heart of the victory, and that was Phil Jones.

A Closer Look At Arsenal's Impressive British Contingent

Many people have written off Arsenal over the past few years, it's something we've grown accustomed to. But while spectators are now marvelling over the Gunners topping the Premier League table, there is another reason for the Gooners to celebrate, and that's because of the small contingent of young Brits that they possess

Top 7: Free Agents Who Should Be Picked Up Sooner Rather Than Later

The free agents come out to play when the summer transfer window closes. As long as they've been released by their clubs before the deadline day then they can be signed at any point in the season. It'll be a wise move for any manager to look at the free agents, because judging the players on my list, there are a few bargains to be had here.

Why Arteta Could Hold The Key For Arsenal vs Manchester United

The summer was a weird few months for Arsenal. Although Arsene Wenger landed a whopper in the shape of Mesut Ozil, he was unable to strengthen his frontline - apart from youngster Yaya Sanogo - and it's left him with just Nicklas Bendtner in reserve. But while Ozil has hogged the headlines, as well as Aaron Ramsey, there has been another face in the midfield that has sparkled - Mathieu Flamini.

4 German youngsters Premier League clubs should consider

Germany is well known for being able to produce world class talent for the European elite to fight over from a young age. German players are arriving on our shores in large numbers and are seemingly here to stay, with Mesut Ozil being the latest high profile German to make the switch to England. He followed in the footsteps of Andre Schurrle, Lukas Podolski, Per Mertesacker, Thomas Eisfeld, Serge Gnabry, Marko Marin, Sascha Riether, Lewis Holtby, Robert Huth and many more that have graced our pitches in the past. Germany are famous for producing dedicated, passionate, energetic, efficient and extremely talented players that some clubs have spotted and are now forming a core of players in this country. Arsenal and Chelsea in particular are creating squads full of Germans  in a bid to try and dominate the English game. Here are a selection of youngsters that could light up the Premier League in years to come:

Player Report: What Can Defender Who Has Won 29/30 Tackles Offer Arsenal?

While most of the Arsenal faithful are demanding a striker ahead of the January transfer window, there are still a few worried about the lack of options at the back. Per Mertesacker is the first name on the team-sheet for me but Laurent Koscielny has struggled to retain last season's form, and Thomas Vermaelen isn't getting a look in. But don't fret Gooners, talkSPORT are reporting that Arsene Wenger has a man lined up to step in and ease the defensive worries, and his name is Nicolas N'Koulou.

5 Strikers West Ham Should Look To Sign In January

It's been well documented that West Ham are in desperate need of a good striker that will consistently find the net for them. It's not like the Hammers don't have strikers, they do, but the forwards they have are either injured or just simply not good enough to help them climb the table. With Andy Carroll suffering another injury setback within the last few days and Ricardo Vaz Te also on the injury list, the club's striking options have taken a massive hit as they now only have Mladen Petric, Carlton Cole and Modibo Maiga to choose from.

Player Report: Why Premier League Clubs Should Be Doing Everything In Their Power To Sign Striker With 11 Goals In 15 Games

There were two big-name goal-getters on the move during the summer months, and while Edinson Cavani and Radamel Falcao reportedly had offers from around Europe, they both opted for a move to the money-bags of French football - the former to Paris Saint-Germain to partner Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the latter to Monaco.
