A Closer Look At Arsenal's Impressive British Contingent

Many people have written off Arsenal over the past few years, it's something we've grown accustomed to. But while spectators are now marvelling over the Gunners topping the Premier League table, there is another reason for the Gooners to celebrate, and that's because of the small contingent of young Brits that they possess.

Aaron Ramsey has excelled this season and has already scored 11 goals in just 17 games, as well as solidifying the central areas. His energy levels compliment Mathieu Flamini beautifully and he looks to be growing in confidence every game.

Sitting alongside him is Jack Wilshere, who has been dubbed as the next England captain for some time now but has failed to hit the heights this season. He has the technique, the determination and the bite to make it as a top central midfielder, but whether he can stay fit or not is a different question.

Kieran Gibbs is also a player who has been incredible this season, keeping Nacho Monreal out of the side. He is agile, strong in the tackle and remarkably quick, which is important for a full-back. On the other side of defence is another Englishman, Carl Jenkinson. He has come on leaps and bounds over the last season or so and he is now seen as a reliable player who is intelligent off the ball.

On either wing Wenger also has an England international, with Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who are both currently sidelined with injury. Both possess the pace, the former more than the latter, but the Ox contains the sheer power and willingness to beat a man.

It's an exciting time to be a Gooner right now - top of the Premier League, top of their Champions League group and a huge pool of young, British talent to look forward to seeing flourish at the Emirates.
