Kaboul To Arsenal Wouldn't Be So Bad - Or Would It?

The Daily Star reports that Tottenham could lose defender Younes Kaboul to arch rivals Arsenal, on a free transfer in the summer. But these switches are no longer unthinkable.

The French International’s contract runs out this summer and is yet to sign any extension to his current deal, and apparently Tottenham fear he will leave under the Bosman ruling.

However, Spurs fans will not have welcomed the idea of Kaboul leaving White Hart Lane for a move across north London. Having already been in this situation before. Back in 2001, Tottenham famously and controversially lost their captain Sol Campbell to Arsenal, in what was the first high-profile Bosman free transfer.

Campbell was heavily criticised by the Spurs fans and branded as “Judas” by the newspapers, but do these transfers still cause as much of an uproar nowadays?

I would have to say no. Top teams in the Premier League rarely used to trade amongst themselves, they would rather see their players depart abroad than strengthen their rivals.

However, things have changed drastically in recent times. There seems to be no team that a player cannot play for, whether moves be motivated by money or titles.

There have been numerous examples, Torres to Chelsea, van Persie to Manchester United and Juan Mata from Chelsea to United.

These moves are now more socially acceptable and that is down to the fact that football is all business nowadays. What about the Arsenal captain to Manchester United - have you ever?!
