    Ireland: An Improvement of Sorts

This fatalism is reflected in the way that Trappatoni sets up his team, with Glenn Whelan and Keith Andrews anchoring the midfield and McGeady and Duff providing attacking options from the wings. Doyle and Keane give the "little and large" combination so often seen in striking partnerships.

    England the solution

Is there a solution to end this eternal cycle of lost dreams, and disappointment? This (now) 45 years of hurt, and counting. I believe there is.

Expect more than mere German efficiency at the Euros

On the night England limped past another marker on their way to a summer in Poland and Ukraine next year, making hugely troublesome the negotiation of a Wales side ranking 113 places below them in the FIFA hierarchy, two of the teams scheduled to provide England with a preparative test after a now seemingly inevitable assurance of qualification, strolled onto Eastern Europe with minimal fuss.

    The problem facing Spanish football

Some football fans believe La Liga is slowly becoming the biggest and best league in the world. You can't exactly blame them; Spain does posses two of the world’s biggest sides in Real Madrid and Barcelona, arguably the greatest player of my generation in Lionel Messi with Cristiano Ronaldo coming a close second and the national side currently holding onto the World Cup and European Championships with a smug grin on their respective faces.

    Ronaldinho’s Resurgence

Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, or Ronaldinho to most of us, is arguably one the 21st century’s greatest players. A player who innovated the game as we know it today; a player who was influential in creating the current dominance by Barcelona in European football and a player who can boast two FIFA World Player of the Year awards to his list of achievements.

    Wayne’s Roo-Juvenated

England and Manchester United fans would be enormously ecstatic to have seen Wayne Rooney score a brace that took the Three Lions three points clear in group G days after claiming a hat trick that sent Manchester United top of the Premier League table for the first time this season.

Dear Australia…… Your rules are rubbish!

I’ve just watched my 13 year old cousin play football for his local team the Tarmoor Tigers in Australia. I’m still astounded and shocked at what I’ve just witnessed and realise why the football here will never be there national sport! It was the quarter finals of the local cup so there was a big turnout. I’ve only recently come to Australia so was quite excited to watch him play and see what the quality was like.

Whatever Happened to Young Michael Owen

Earlier this week, there was a fair amount in the press about how it is a full decade since England’s 5-1 victory in Munich. Initially, I was going to write about how the fact that we are celebrating this victory a full ten years on typifies English footballs attitude

    Transfer window winners and losers

Slam; that’s the sound of the transfer window shutting for another six months leaving Jim White, Dharmesh Sheth, Andy Burton, David Craig and all the rest in need of a good lie down. Perhaps later they’re decide to drop their “sources” who gave out as much misleading information as a broken compass.

Owen Hargreaves: We Can Rebuild Him, We Have The Technology

In what would be one of perhaps the most surprising moves of this transfer window, given its late emergence and relative value, Owen Hargreaves has been linked with a switch to the blue half of Manchester.

Wenger Finally Breaks Into the Piggy Bank

Blimey. It seems after my blog last week asking Arsene Wenger to splash the cash or send some down to the Essex coast to my little club Southend United, he has taken my advice and gone into spending overdrive. Of course being hammered 8-2 by Manchester United on Sunday may also have something to do with it (I don't want to take all the credit).

Why Arsenal’s humiliation at Old Trafford might be a good thing for the Gunners

Wow. What a week it’s been for Arsenal. I think it’s fair to say that business is starting to pick up at the Emirates.
