Barnsley early woes continue as Wigan lay down the marker

Having been one of the form teams following the appointment of David Flitcroft in late December, there were hopes around Oakwell that serial escape artists Barnsley might just play things a little safer this term.

Coventry case highlights just how bad things can get

Football fans without question are a dramatic bunch, more often than not over reacting to the first sign of choppy of waters. The worst sacking of all time?

Ok so the headline might be a little but over the top but few managerial sackings have resulted in such disastrous results as Wolves decision to dispense with Mick McCarthy back in February 2012. The long serving manager was relieved of his duties following several disappointing results which culminated in an embarrassing 5-1 thumping to fierce rivals West Brom, which left the club in the bottom three albeit only on goal difference.

    Wolves are down and out

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been relegated to League One after losing the last match of the season away to Brighton. A miserable 12 months has seen the midlands club relegated from the Premiership and then struggle throughout this campaign to end in 23rd place in the Championship. Fans and pundits thought that they would look to immediately bounce back from the drop at the end of the 2011/2012 season, but instead of enjoying life around the top end of the table they found themselves slipping further down the standings with alarming ease. Ultimately they had no answers to the situation and consecutive relegations will force many questions to be asked.

It is always difficult for smaller clubs to keep hold of their most talented players, especially in today's world where money seems to be the deciding factor in most football related matters. Whilst it can be hoped that a larger, and more financially powerful, club will pay a fair price to sign an up and coming star, what can the selling club do if they don't wish to lose such an individual, and is it often in the player's interest to make the move?

    The Portsmouth saga continues

You could be forgiven to forgetting about Portsmouth. You could also be forgiven for assuming the club would never exit administration. After consecutive relegations (and a third on the cards) things aren't quite looking as good as they once were at Fratton Park - But the saga is nearly over.

Jordan Rhodes will reach the Premier League (video)

At the age of just 22 years old, Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes netted his 100th Football League goal on Saturday, in a 2-0 defeat of Bristol Rovers. With the Ewood Park side unlikely to achieve promotion this season, Rhodes’ goal scoring exploits mean that there’s every chance he will reach the big time before Blackburn do.
