Bradford City moving back in the right direction (video)

Bradford City’s long winter of discontent since relegation from the Premier League is finally at an end. Promotion from League One is not exactly the most box office of achievements, but it is certainly a step in the right direction. When you couple that with their remarkable run to the League Cup final, you would have to say that Bradford have had one of their most successful seasons. To put their recent achievements into context, let’s take a look at their steepest of declines.

    Bradford’s fairy tale

On Tuesday night Bradford’s tough togetherness wrote them into football folklore and I at first hand saw the passion of the West Yorkshire fans that night and what it meant to them. I study at the University there, so live in the city, so on Tuesday evening we were sat in a packed pub with a lot of locals willing on the Bantams, as neutrals and as football fans we wanted the underdog to win.

The enigma that is Bradford City

This is a defining week in a couple of club’s histories. There’s Swansea City, a club on the verge of reaching their first ever major final in their centenary year, could a fairytale end any sweeter? Can Bradford use this year to finally climb out of the basement?

It is an irregular sight to see a stadium of Valley Parade’s size and heritage play host to the likes of Barnet and Fleetwood on a weekly basis but that is the fate that has belied the Bantams since their ITV Digital induced capitulation through the football league that began at the turn of the millennium. Since then, they have experienced two administrations and fifteen managers in succession of Paul Jewell, the manager who oversaw their miraculous stay in the Premier League of the final day in 2000 with a win over Liverpool.
