Why the League Cup final is important for football

The Capital One Cup final takes place this Sunday and suffice to say it is a remarkable achievement that League Two Bradford City have made it all the way to the final.

Personally, I think it is brilliant for football in this country. Forget Man City doing the Harlem Shake, this is the real feel-good story of the season so far, if you'll excuse that slightly American cliche.

It wasn't too long ago that Stan Collymore was part of Bradford City's team and they were in the top flight of English football.

Around the time that Bradford were battling it out with the Premier League giants, Swansea City, their opponents on Sunday, were struggling in the bottom tier of English football so it is quite the achievement for the Swans to have made their way up the ladder and into the top flight.

Regardless of what leagues they were in and when, Sunday's Capital One Cup final is going to be brilliant for both teams and especially their fans. This tournament is usually a casual after thought of the Premier League teams that make the final but not this year and that is why it is much needed breath of fresh air to have a team from the lower league travel to Wembley to try and pull off an improbable upset.

The run that Bradford have gone on to reach this point is spectacular, most notably knocking out Arsenal at the quarter final stage.

It should not be forgotten that this is an equally important juncture in Swansea'a rise to being one of the Premier League's top clubs and Swans fans will consider this the cherry on top of the cake following what has been an extremely successful period for the team.

These are the kind of stories that make football great and hopefully there will be a fantastic climax on Sunday.
