Chelsea: Why Torres To Inter Would Be A Blessing In Disguise

A recent report in the London Evening Standard has suggested that Inter Milan might step up their pursuit of Chelsea striker Fernando Torres with a loan deal next season.

With Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa apparently the top summer target for Blues boss Jose Mourinho, this could be the final curtain call for a player who never lived up to the fans expectations, let alone his mammoth £50 million price tag.

Torres has only featured in half of Chelsea’s Premier League games this season and his confidence is at an all time low. Maybe he has never had consistent game time to prove his worth, but there hasn’t even been an inkling of class from the former Liverpool favourite who during his time at Chelsea over the last three years has made 162 appearances, yet scored a measly 44 goals in the process.

Since Mourinho took charge of Chelsea at the start of this season he has shown how some players are clearly not in his plans for the future, and judging from the body language and performances on the pitch, I think Torres realises his time is up.

I can see Chelsea holding out for Atletico Madrid’s decision as to whether or not they will let Diego Costa go in the summer, but should they get the all clear to make a move then perhaps Fernando Torres would be used in a swap deal to go back to his boyhood club?

I think Diego Costa would be suited to the Premier League but like any player adapting to the English game, it's a risk to be taken but surely losing Torres and gaining Costa would be worth it?

Will Chelsea benefit from such a move? Have your say.
