Vidic Departure A Positive For Manchester United Youngsters

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic will join Inter Milan in the summer, according to reports. The Serie A giants have confirmed the 32-year-old central defender has signed for them, although they have not revealed the length of the Serbian’s contract.

Vidic, who signed for United in 2006 from Spartak Moscow, has won almost every major honour in the game during his time at Old Trafford including the Champions League in 2008, five Premier League titles and three League Cups.

His departure leaves David Moyes with a large void to fill in defence. At 32 years of age the Serbian has featured an impressive 22 times for the Red Devils this term, and his departure will leave the Scot searching for some form of replacement.

He could, of course, utilise the players already available to him at United.

Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling have all been waiting for the chance in central defence and the Serbian’s contract expiry could provide the perfect opportunity for at least one of the trio to make the position their own.

Although Moyes could decide to delve into the transfer market this summer, he should be careful when overlooking his current options.

Personally, I would expect to see Jones and Evans as the future partnership at the heart of defence.

United fans, what do you reckon?
