Wenger Out? Why Arsenal Must Secure A Deal For Frenchman Regardless Of Trophy Absence

Arsene Wenger is in his final few months of his contract at the Emirates, and the Frenchman has yet to sign a new deal to extend his stay at Arsenal beyond this season.

Under his guidance, Arsenal achieved success early in Wenger's career as the Gunners' manager. However, things have not gone as planned for the north London club as his side have gone without a single trophy in the last nine years.

The trophy drought has seen few football pundits and a portion of Arsenal fans question the decision to still keep Wenger at the club. Over the years, fans have booed the 64-year-old manager, while a few have asked the board to show him the exit door.

Arsenal's last success was in 2005 as they defeated Manchester United in the FA Cup final. The Emirates club are now out of this year's Champions League after they were knocked out of the European competition by the treble winners Bayern Munich, leaving their chances of silverware this season looking slim.

In the league, Arsenal are third in the table with 59 points from 28 games, level on points with second place Liverpool, though Manchester City have a couple of games in hand. For me, their only hope is to win the FA Cup.

Arsenal defeated Everton and have progressed to last four of the FA Cup, where they take on the reigning champions Wigan Athletic in the semi-finals. The Latics defeated Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad in the quarter-finals earlier this month.

A defeat for Arsenal against Wigan would see them end their hope of winning a silverware, for me, as the league seems to be too big of an ask for them now, though they are, strictly speaking, still in the race.

If Wenger ends the season without silverware, will the Frenchman quit from his post come this summer?

Is it the best solution for both the club and the manager?

Should Wenger decide to end his tenure at Arsenal, it will be a major blow for the Gunners and their fans. The north London side's board should make sure that their manager signs an extension and continues with the club for as long as he wants.

Losing the French coach in the summer could see Arsenal experience a similar fate than that of United, when David Moyes replaced Sir Alex Ferguson.
