Arsenal Deserve Praise: A Tribute To Arsene Wenger

In the modern world of football, where managers get sacked after just few poor results, Arsenal need some praise for the length of time that they have kept hold of Arsene Wenger for so long.

The Gunners, however, have gone without silverware since winning the FA Cup in 2005. Without a single trophy in the last nine (ish) years, Wenger has still been trusted to manage the club and and in my opinion rightly so - he has led the north London side to a top four finish in every season he has been in charge of the club.

Taking Chelsea as an example, they have seen several managers come and go in the time the French coach has been at the club and he has seen Jose Mourinho arrive, win trophies, leave and then return.

With the difficulty of football management increasing because of the evolution of the sport, Wenger has every right to be proud of the job he has done.

The Frenchman joined the north London side from Japanese club Nagoya Grampus in 1996 during a time that Manchester United were dominating the English topflight.

Despite that Wenger guided Arsenal to win the Premier League title in the 1997-98 and the FA Cup the same season, and then again in 2001-02 and 2003-04. The final Premier League title won by the north London side had seen them go unbeaten throughout the season, a feat which has never been achieved before.

As a result of the club having limited funds to spend, thanks to the financing of the Emirates stadium, Wenger signed young talents and gave opportunities in the first team. The club's net spend from the time they moved to the new ground until the end of last season, was a profit of £40m, which is a huge achievement.

Wenger has built this club and maintained one of the top teams across the continent with limited money. With the club now having the opportunity to splash the cash, the Frenchman can now take things further at the Emirates and go on a serious search for trophies once more.
