We take a look at half of Fulham's double signing, Fernando Amorebieta

Fulham have made their first signings of the season in the shapes of Derek Boateng from Dnipro and Fernando Amorebieta from Athletic Bilbao, and we take a look at the latter who has signed a four-year deal at Craven Cottage.

Apart from his dodgy barnet the centre-back is genuinely highly-rated amonsgt those who have been keeping their eye on him. The 28-year-old was born in Venezuela but represented Spain at U19 level as he was brought up in the Basque Country, who he also represented at international level, but later pinned his colours to the Venezuelan international side.

The giant defender has played over 250 games for Bilbao in the Spanish topflight but has made just 11 league games this season. Although he has made an average of 12 defensive actions per game he has offered little else. His pass accuracy is a reasonable chunk less than most of the Fulham defence and is zero threat at the other end of the pitch.

However, in terms of stature of the backline then surely there will be few centre-back pairings more intimidating that Brede Hangeland and this monster, who stands at over 6ft4.

All the more meat for the likes of Luis Suarez to nibble on.
