Arsenal midfield star set to be out until October

An Arsenal midfielder who spent all of last season will be out until at least October, Arsene Wenger has confirmed.

Jack Wilshire spent all of the 2011-12 campaign on the sidelines with an ankle problem before undergoing minor knee surgery in March.

The 20-year-old midfielder underwent ankle surgery last summer successfully only to suffer a stress fracture in rehabilitation in January.

Whilst recovering from this setback, a long-standing knee injury then flared up leading to the latest bout of surgery and missing the European Championships earlier this summer.

Wenger, speaking from Arsenal's tour of Hong Kong said: “Hopefully we will get Wilshire back playing for October.”

Wilshire himself has his sights set on returning to light training in August.
