Barca set to sign Spurs target

Barcelona have won the race to sign former Manchester United forward Giuseppe Rossi.

The Mirror reports that the La Liga and Champions League winners hope to tie up a move for the Villarreal man within the next few weeks.

Spurs had a £32million move turned down in January and had hoped the Italian international would reconsider a move in the summer, but it is Barcelona who has opened talks with a potential £40million move.

Tottenham will now have to turn their attentions elsewhere and without the prestigious offerings off Champions League football, Spurs may struggle to attract the players required to mount another offensive on a top 4 raid.

Villarreal will use the money to bring 2 or 3 summer signings and still have money left over. The 24-year old arrived in Spain from Man Utd back in 2007 for a reported fee of £6million.

The striker has scored over 50 goals since his arrival and Sir Alex Ferguson was originally reluctant to let the Italian wiz kid leave, but couldn’t guarantee the young apprentice regular 1st team football.
