    Alves nearly joined Chelsea

    Barcelona full back Daniel Alves was on the verge of joining Chelsea prior to his move to the Catalans.

    The Brazilian defender swapped Sevilla for La Liga champions Barcelona back in 2008, but said he held discussions with Chelsea and was keen to link up with Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho, he told Spanish paper El Pais "I really like Mourinho, he is a fantastic person - I was on the verge of working with him at Chelsea,"

    "We spoke many times and I think he is a great professional," he added.
