Tottenham defender's future remains in the balance

The future of Danny Rose it seems is far from planted, with The Metro reporting that he has had no discussion with Sunderland in regards to whether his loan move will be made permanent.

Rose is currently on loan from Tottenham and has been one of the few bright sparks in a Sunderland season that has only recently come to life following the appointment of Paolo Di Canio. Under Martin O'Neil the indications had been that the club would almost certainly do everything they could to keep Rose, however with a new man in charge Sunderland's stance is now not quite so clear.

Competitions for full back spots at Spurs does look to be tough at which might help Sunderland's bid to force through a permanent move, although given that Andre Villas Boas doesn't as yet seem convinced by Benoit Assou Ekotto might give Rose hope that his career could still bloom at Tottenham. The struggles of Assou Ekotto will be particularly pleasing given that under Harry Redknapp the Cameroonian was one of the most nailed on players in the starting XI.

AVB has indicated a desire to keep the left back, however the bargaining tool of first team football and the magic of Paolo Di Canio could yet see Rose join his on loan club permanently.
