United to tap into Sporting links

Newly crowned Premier League Champions Manchester United will attempt to sign Sporting Lisbon’s Bruma this summer. Sir Alex Ferguson has never been one to rest on his laurels, with The Daily Mirror claiming that United will attempt to sign the highly rated forward in this summer’s transfer window in a cut price £3million deal. Lisbon’s financial issues have been well documented and the club is in no apparent position to hold Ferguson to ransom.
Competition for the teenager’s signature is likely to be fierce, with Manchester City, Liverpool and Bayern Munich all said to have shown an interest. The 18 year old, born in Guinea-Bissau, has made just eight appearances for the Lions, only making his debut in February of this year. Bruma could become the third winger since the turn of the millennium to make the move from the Estádio José Alvalade to Old Trafford. The Red Devils have of course developed strong links with Sporting, with the signings of Cristiano Ronaldo (2003) and Nani (2007).
On the back of their latest domestic triumph, Ferguson was glowing in praise of his younger players, predicting continued success within the next decade. Alongside his notorious man management skills, the Scot is renowned for his ability to develop young and raw talents into world beaters. Jones, Evans, Smalling, Welbeck, Rafael, De Gea and Cleverley have already been pencilled in to form the spine of United’s squad in coming seasons. United will be confident of tapping into Lisbon links in order to acquire yet another young talent for nurturing.
