    Bolton skipper set for MLS

Sky Sports have reported that Bolton captain Kevin Davies has been discussing a potential move to Major League Soccer (MLS). The soon to be departed striker is said to have been in talks with Canadian outfit Toronto FC, now managed by former Blackburn, Tottenham and QPR defender Ryan Nelsen. Toronto are struggling in the early stages of the MLS Eastern Conference, with just 7 points from 7 matches.

Davies, nearing the end of his tenth season with the Lancashire outfit, has been informed he will not be offered a new deal at the end of this campaign. Signed for a free transfer from Southampton in 2003, the striker has gone on to make 403 appearances, scoring 85 goals. He may be remembered most fondly for his equalising goal away to Bayern Munich in a UEFA Cup Group Stage game in November 2007. Davies, perhaps surprisingly, has struggled to adapt to Championship football and finds himself down the pecking order. The once capped England international was informed earlier this season that he won’t be offered a new deal.

Davies determination and drive underpinned the success that Bolton enjoyed during the Sam Allardyce period. Although never a consistent goal scorer, Davies was a proverbial ‘pain in the backside,’ irritating many a world class centre half. Wanderers potential involvement in the play offs may deny Davies the opportunity of an imminent departure, with Dougie Freeman’s outfit currently occupying 6th spot with two games. What we can be sure of is that the Bolton veteran will be departing The Reebok this summer and Toronto looks increasingly likely to be his destination.
