Monaco eye move for latest Arsenal contract rebel

Monaco’s billionaire owner Dmitry Rybolovlev will move to sign Bacary Sagna, once their impending promotion to Ligue 1 has been finalised.  According to The Daily Mail, the Principality side will attempt to sign the Arsenal right back over the summer months. The signing of the Sagna would act as a statement of intent from the club, who have desires on competing with mega rich Paris Saint Germain in the not so distant future.

AS Monaco currently sit 7 points clear at the summit of Ligue 2 with just 5 matches to play, and are eager to move fast in this summer’s transfer window by recruiting Sagna. The 30 year old, signed from Auxerre in 2007, has become a stalwart at The Emirates having made 229 appearances across 6 seasons. Recent contract talks have however stalled and Arsenal are said to have already eyed up potential replacements for their latest contract rebel, in the form of Matthew Lowton (Aston Villa), Daryl Janmaat (Feyenoord) and Sebastien Corchia (Sochaux).

Losing Sagna, cynically but presumably to the lure of the Russian roubles, would represent a loss of some sorts to Arsene Wenger. The French manager is looking to develop a squad with the depth and quality to match that of both Manchester outfits, and any first team departures are likely to be frowned upon. It is however, hard to envisage that Wenger would mourn the loss of his full back in the manner that he may have reserved for Fabregas, Nasri or van Persie.
