African hero considers return to European shores

Asamoah Gyan has alerted clubs across Europe by indicating that he craves a move back to the continent this summer. Sky Sports report that the Al Ain striker is beginning to grow disillusioned with the standard of football in the United Arab Emirates. Gyan is quoted as saying, ‘If there is a possibility to return to a very good European club then of course I would take the opportunity. It would be very exciting to score goals again in a European league.’

The enigmatic 27 year old has struggled to settle to date, totalling 6 clubs including Al Ain, and is in danger of crossing the ‘journeyman’ threshold. Gyan spent a year (2010-2011) in the Premier League at Sunderland, making a positive impact at The Stadium of Light, netting 11 goals. The striker has also had a huge impact on the international scene, netting 32 goals in 71 appearances, becoming a Ghanaian national icon in the process.

Upon leaving Sunderland, it was reported that Gyan’s salary was to be quadrupled in size. In some ways, who is the average fellow to blame an individual for making this form of hugely economically prosperous career move? Basic statistics would however suggest that the UAE Pro League simply hasn’t offered the Ghanaian a means of competitive football, and it is somewhat refreshing to see that the individual has recognised this and craves a return to football’s most challenging continent.
