    Bayern star set to quit

The Express is reporting that Bayern Munich's, Mario Gomez, will be looking to leave the club in the summer. The paper says this news will alert Chelsea and Manchester City who are both said to be interested in the striker.

The source of the story is Italian football site Calciomercato and they’ve based it on the premise that he has sold his home.

Quite why an Italian football website would be the first to know that a German international footballer was selling his home in Germany, is unclear.

It does however seem reasonable to presume that Gomez, who scored 41 goals for Bayern last season, may be slightly miffed at his lack of game time this year, and could indeed be seeking pastures new.

The manner in which a player with the phenomenal strike rate of 74 goals in 111 games for the club has been marginalised, is remarkable. Even this season, with limited game time he has managed 10 in 17 Bundesliga games.

Gomez starting place in the team has been taken by the impressive Croatian, Mario Mandzukic. He has bagged 15 goals in 21 games and is seen as an upgrade on the equally tall but far less mobile and technical, Gomez.

There is now talk of an upgrade on the upgrade with man of the moment, Robert Lewandowski, strongly tipped to follow his Dortmund colleague Mario Gotze to the Allianz.

Should that occur it’s very unlikely that Gomez would content himself with being third choice centre forward. His ability for putting the ball in the net would ensure that there’d be no shortage of clubs looking to take him off Bayern’s hands.
