Swansea keen on deal for Spurs winger

Michael Laudrup has made QPR loanee Andros Townsend a primary summer transfer target for Swansea. According to This is South Wales, the Dane has been justifiably impressed with Townsend’s strong run of performances since joining Rangers on loan from Tottenham last transfer window.

The 21 year old, born in Chingford, has added much needed pace and creativity to Harry Redknapp’s ailing side since signing on loan in January. The winger stood out particularly in the recent 1-1 draw at home to Wigan, harnessing a direct approach and ball carrying capabilities necessary for a team facing over an hour with a man less. Furthermore, Swansea’s attractive style of football has previously allowed wingers such as Nathan Dyer, Wayne Routeledge and Pablo Hernandez to flourish. With the additional prospect of European football at The Liberty Stadium, a move to Laudrup’s side may well materialise.

Townsend has certainly impressed in his short spell at the West London outfit, and if first team chances at White Hart Lane remain at a premium, he may decide a move is necessary to further his personal development and career progression. An additional complication to any potential move may be the future of Tottenham’s undoubted star player Gareth Bale. The Welshman has been heavily linked with a high profile move this summer, especially if the club fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. If Bale was to depart, Villas Boas may be much more reluctant to lose his natural winger to the Swans.
