Former Chelsea front man linked with Arsenal move

The Sun reported that the much anticipated Arsenal summer spending spree gathered pace today, with the club being linked with former Chelsea attacker Salomon Kalou...

Gunners fans have been salivating at the news that Arsene Wenger was going to leave behind his frugal, big coat of cautiousness and thrown on a diamond emblazoned, jacket of profligacy.

Some of the names linked so far have certainly been exciting, Goetze, Lewandowski, Villa, Jovetic are all much coveted and to capture any would represent an elevation in Arsenal’s standing in the European game.

Whether signing Salomon Kalou would achieve the same effect is open to question, well actually, it’s not, buying Kalou would be nowhere near as big a statement.

Arsenal fans upon hearing about the heralded war chest would no doubt have drawn up their own individual wish lists. I could be going out on a limb here but I’m betting none opted for a Gervinho, Kalou front two.

Quite why you'd need Kalou when you already have Gervinho is unclear, they would outwardly appear to serve the same purpose, and coincidently the two share numerous similarities. Both are obviously Ivory Coast internationals, they have both played for Lille, neither is an out and out striker nor an out and out winger, and both have confounded supporters by their ability to look less than average 95 per cent of the time and like a world beater for the other 5 per cent.

Wenger has often been linked with Kalou, so has clearly identified something that I and many others have not. With the player now making uttering’s about returning to the Premier League he may be provided the opportunity to prove his doubters wrong.
