Porto weigh up move for United star

The Telegraph is reporting that Manchester United midfielder, Anderson, could be about to return to his former club, Porto.

The paper indicates that Sir Alex Ferguson is prepared to let Anderson go and if the Portuguese club make a sufficient offer then a deal can be done.

The ‘big boned’ Brazilian has failed to live up to the promise of his early career. He made his debut for his hometown team, Gremio, aged just sixteen. His ability was immediately apparent prompting Porto to shell out £5m for him before he had reached legal drinking age.

After a couple of injury ravaged years at Porto during which he played a total of eighteen league games, United had seen enough. They declared their interest in the young star and were made to pay what now looks a rather unreasonable £25.7m.

The player, whose build is one that would require consistent game time to maintain the requisite fitness level for the English game, has at no stage appeared to maintain the requisite fitness level for the English game.

Long term and nagging injuries have constantly interrupted his United career, meaning that his debut season in 2007 apart, he has not passed twenty league games. This season has followed that familiar pattern with so far just 10 Premier League starts.

The report suggests that his stock in Portugal is still relatively high and that United might be able to use him as a bargaining tool in their efforts to secure twenty one year old, Colombian winger, James Rodriguez.

Anderson currently has two years left on his Old Trafford contract and may see the move as an opportunity to kick start his career in familiar surroundings, although there is apparently no truth in the rumour that he said he’d run all the way to the airport, he just said he’d walk fast.
