    Brazlian midfielder wants Athletico reunion

According to ESPN Soccernet, VFL Wolfsburg’s Diego has his heart set on a summer move to La Liga, in the shape of a return to Athletico Madrid. The Brazilian described his season long loan (2010-2011) as ‘magical’, and played in integral role under Diego Simone as the club won their 2nd Europa League title in 3 seasons. This warm feeling of content is apparently somewhat mutual, as Simeone has often publicly pined for the creativity that Diego brought to his outfit, including his 6 goals in 43 appearances.

Diego’s reason for wanting to leave the Volkswagen Arena appear simple enough, with the midfielder stating that ‘it is not that that I am tired of Wolfsburg, but I am fed of losing.’ This quote came on the back of a 6-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in Tuesday’s DFB Pokal Semi-Final. To the naked eye this may appear to be somewhat of an over reaction, however the 2010 Bundesliga champions have had a miserable season and lie 13th in the table, an uncomfortable 7 points above the drop zone.

The Brazilian is recognised as somewhat of an enigma, with an attitude that fans don’t always find overly endearing. Fans of Juventus soon became frustrated with Diego’s style of play, essentially rendering his one year spell (2009-2010) in Turin as a failure. However, as adhered too, the midfielder was a big hit during his time at the Vicente Calderon and with Athletico all but guaranteed UEFA Champions League football next season (freeing up funds for transfers/wages), Diego may be granted his wish of a permanent move to the Spanish capital.
