Dortmund star fancies a move ashore

Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan has expressed a strong interest in a future move to either the Premier League or La Liga, as reported by ESPN Soccernet. The creative midfielder has emerged as an important figure within Dortmund’s march to a place in the UEFA Champions League semi finals, and has been linked with potential moves to both Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Gundogan does appear to understand that he is not under complete control of any impending departure, telling media outlet AS that ‘I have a contract with Dortmund until June 2015. The club want to extent that.’  However, the Gelsenkirchen born player, with strong Turkish heritages, appears to have mapped out his future, stating ‘my objective is to play in Spain or England. Without a doubt, I am happy but I have a plan for my career.’

It isn’t particularly hard to imagine Jurgen Klopp’s exasperation when he was made aware of this disheartening news. Rarely a day goes by when one of his pivotal assets, whether it be Hummels, Subotic, Lewandowski, Goetze or so on, is linked with a summer move away from the Westfalenstadion. These rumours are hardly preparation for their upcoming UEFA Champions League semi final against Real Madrid.

Klopp himself has been linked with taking over the reins at the Bernabeu, if the expected departure of Jose Mourinho is to materialise. Fans and admirers of Dortmund may have to mentally prepare for seeing a very different outfit on both sides of the touchline next season.
