Frank Jol says no for Fulham

Reports from The Metro this morning have quashed the non-existent rumours surrounding Frank Lampard’s possible summer switch to Fulham, as Martin Jol states “legend” Lampard will not be on his way to Craven Cottage.
However the reports suggest that the Fulham gaffer is after a midfield player which he concedes is an area of his team that he needs to strengthen. Indeed their midfield looks very precarious at the moment with the likes of Mahamadou Diarra, Chris Baird, Simon Davies and Giorgios Karagounis all out-of-contract at the end of this campaign.
While Lampard may be a “living legend” in the eyes of the Stamford Bridge faithful it is difficult to see Lampard plugging such a hole in any side’s midfield despite constant banter regarding his weight.
Jol’s statement of Lampard not being willing to play for any top-10 side is also slightly humorous as not only as he previously played for West Ham but that definition surely includes all the sides in the top-4 and top-6 in the Premier League, whatever they are anymore.
Jol’s honesty however is commendable and refreshing at a time where a manager or agent will say anything to inject a bit of transfer rumour or gossip. Perhaps it’s a sign of the times for Jol who might be slowly giving up on progress as a top half finish is realistically all the Cottagers can offer him (sorry fans).
