    Spurs to Offload Defender

Tottenham defender Benoit Assou-Akotto appears to be on his way out of White Hart Lane.

The Mirror is reporting that the left back is surplus to requirements as the club assess other options, Inter Milan’s, Alvaro Pereira and Real Madrid’s, Fabio Coentrao, the two rather ambitious names mentioned.

The player, who once famously stated that he played football just for the money has essentially, in Andre Villas Boas, found a manager who is prepared to cut out the middle man. Since returning to fitness following an early season injury, Assou-Akotto has been unable to regain a regular place in the side, with centre back, Jan Vertonghen and right back, Kyle Naughton both intermittently occupying his turf.

The news may surprise Spurs fans. After a difficult, slow start to their relationship with the Cameroonian international he has become something of a cult hero at the lane. His performances under Harry Redknapp’s tenure established him as one of the most consistent performers in their team.

The paper reports that a move back to France and specifically Monaco is likely, but should Queens Park Rangers manage to defy all the odds and stay in the Premier League, don’t be surprised to see the London loving left back join Harry in Shepherds Bush.
