      Tottenham eye Feyenoord defender

The incredible focus afforded to Europe’s top football clubs in almost every kind of media means that’s sometimes it feels like a rather rare occasion when a new name or transfer link actually crops up.

Well today is one of those celebrated days and praise be to The Daily Mail for providing our healthy serving of gossip. Tottenham are planning a £5.5m swoop for Feyenoord defender Bruno Martins Indi. Told you it was a new name.

Martins Indi is a Potugese-born defender who now represents the Netherlands and has won seven caps for his country. He can operate at either left-back or centre-back and would provide cover for Andre Villas Boas’ defence with William Gallas and Benoit Assou-Ekotto’s futures at the club uncertain.

Martins Indi has not missed a game for the national side since his call up last August and is held in extremely high regard by Netherlands boss Louis Van Gaal.

The 21-year-old’s Feyenoord team mate Stefan De Vrij has also been attracting attention from the likes of Liverpool, AC Milan and Chelsea and a potential double deal involving both players had previously been suggested.

The emergence of these young talented defenders, alongside Chelsea’s Jeffrey Burma, will come as a relief to the Dutch national side who often struggle to produce top quality defensive players to complement their abundant attacking talent.
