      Manchester City target Higuian

Despite possessing one of the most expensive front lines ever assembled, Manchester City’s strikers have failed to do the business for Roberto Mancini this season.

Edin Dzeko is generally considered the weaker of City’s three forwards, but has actually scored more than Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero this season and looks to be on his way out of the Etihad come the summer. His Argentine strike partners have only managed 18 goals between them so far this season – five less than Robin van Persie – and right now don’t look capable of firing Mancini’s men back to the top of the table.

Fortunately City have a solution, well, The Daily Mirror do anyway. The paper says that the Champions are targeting Real Madrid hitman Gonzalo Higuain to solve their striking problems. The Argentinian international has fallen out of favour somewhat with Jose Mourinho this season – but then again, who hasn’t – despite scoring 10 goals in his 27 league games. It is thought that Jose wants a little more from his forwards and dislikes the feeling that his side are reliant on Cristiano Ronaldo for their goals.

Higuain would add much to this City side though. If he could strike up a fruitful partnership with his close friend Aguero and adapt to the English game then we would surely see a hatful of goals from the evidently talented 25-year-old who has scored 100 league goals in 179 games during his time at Madrid.

A fee of £25m is suggested for Higuain, which is certainly not out of City’s price range, so will the Argentine be replacing Dzeko at the end of the season?
