Could Shelvey be on on way to Stoke?

You’d have thought Stoke would have learned their lesson about buying out of favour Liverpool players when they signed Charlie Adam wouldn’t you? Well apparently not.
The Daily Mirror are reporting that Tony Pullis now has his sights set on Jonjo Shelvey to fill the gap which Adam will leave if he departs the Britannia. The 21-year-old has found himself out of the Liverpool side for some time now and looks short of form when on the pitch. He has struggled to live up to his potential since joining the Red’s as a 16-year-old and probably feels as though he needs regular game time at such a crucial point in his career.
The Mirror’s mysterious ‘sources’ report that Shelvey will be allowed to leave for £7m, which seems a little out of Stoke’s budget for a promising young midfielder who has only managed the 14 yellow cards in his career. It is also doubtful that Liverpool will be prepared to let the England international leave at this stage in his development. They have spent five years developing Shelvey and a loan move would be probably suit Brendan Rodgers more. The Red’s will have hopefully learned from their embarrassing experiences with Tom Ince anyway. The youngster was allowed to leave for Blackpool at the age of 19 before he showed his full potential for Liverpool. His former club then tried to buy back the winger in January for much more than they made when he left.
Will we see a similar situation with Shelvey in a couple of years time? No, probably not. Shelvey’s eye for a pass is way too good for him to ever sign for a Tony Pullis side.
