Premier League club after £15m forward

When Kevin Nolan is your top scorer with six goals, it’s probably time to buy a striker. Fortunately for West Ham, their scouts seem to have done a rather decent job of finding a goalscorer, according to The Evening Standard the Hammers have identified Wilfried Bony as the man lead their line next season – we most certainly approve.

In fact, the most surprising aspect of this story is the fact that it is apparently just Fulham and West Ham who are seriously considering a bid for Bony.

The Ivorian has scored 46 times in 63 appearances for his side Vitesse Arnheim since moving in from Sparta Prague in 2011 and at just 24, should have plenty to offer a better side than Fulham or West Ham for several years to come.

Bony is strong, and good in the air, but fortunately for Hammers fans, that’s where the Andy Carroll comparisons can end. He is a brilliant finisher who will inevitably score goals when deployed as a poacher, in and around the penalty area. He also possesses great awareness, enabling him to open up gaps in a  defence and carve out shooting opportunities for himself.

Any potential suitors will have to be wary of the ‘Eredivise bump’ though which seems to have effected quite a few goalscorers down the years. Yes, there are undoubtedly some very talented players plying their trade in the Dutch league, but for every Luis Suarez there is at least a couple of Alfonso Alves’ who enjoyed remarkable success for Heerenveen before flopping dramatically at Middlesborough.
