City star threatens to quit the Etihad

This one comes as a bit of a shock. Yaya Toure is regarded as one of the best central midfielders in world football, and it's easy to see why. The Ivory Coast international can do it all: attack, defend, pass, shoot, the whole package. So it comes as a major surprise to hear that City have been stalling on a new contract for the midfielder for the last six months, to the point where his agent has had to set a deadline for the club - Saturday.

If City fail to renew Toure's contract by said deadline, then he will begin to negotiate with other clubs, and may even buy out his own contract if need be. With Financial Fair Play on the horizon, it is somewhat understandable that the blue half of Manchester are looking to clear out some of their more expensive employees. However, a player of Yaya's calibre is hard to come by, and is well worth every penny of his transfer fee and wages - despite being the club's top earner on £220,000 a week.

Should the ex-Barcelona star become available on the transfer market for a cut-price, though, there will be no shortage of clubs looking to acquire the box-to-box player's signature. English Premier League supporters will no doubt hope he stays in England, but there is no guarantee. An exciting saga to watch out for in the summer - IF City stall until Saturday, that is.
