Everton and Villa to offer City misfit an escape route

Well isn’t this a surprise! According to The Daily Mirror Manchester City’s professional benchwarmer and ex-footballer Scott Sinclair could well be on his way out of the Etihad this summer.

Seriously, this must be the least shocking transfer story of the year. It could probably have been written the minute Sinclair chose to make the switch – quadrupling his £10,000 a week wages but instantly slipping way down the pecking order.

There are a couple of surprises in the story though. Firstly the Mirror remind us that the 23-year-old has actually started two Premier League games, And has in fact made 12 appearances in total (nine as a substitute). Secondly there are apparently a ‘clutch’ of clubs interested in rescuing poor Scotty. Not just a couple, an entire clutch!

Included amongst these are Aston Villa and Everton who still rate the former Swansea man – David Moyes and Paul Lambert must be really enjoying those 2011/12 season review DVDs they got for Christmas – and either side could make a January swoop.

Of course Villa’s interest will probably rest on the hope that they can remain in the Premier League, a hope which is far from a certainty with the Villains sitting just one place outside the relegation zone. Everton would seem like a likelier destination for the man who, lest we forget, represented team GB at this summer’s Olympics.
