Liverpool youngster could be heading to the Championship

From being one of Liverpool’s most important players at the beginning of the season Raheem Sterling is now being offered on loan to a number of Championships clubs says The Metro.

The 18-year-old has made 23 appearances for the Red’s this season, performing excellently as Brendan Rodgers side struggled in attacking areas. But with the January acquisitions of Daniel Sturidge and Phillipe Coutinho, as well as the improving form of Stewart Downing, Sterling has found himself on the fringes of the first team in recent weeks.

Any loan deal would only be until the end of the season but a period playing first team football is seen as preferable to seeing Sterling on the bench for the next few games.

Bolton, Brighton and Championship leaders Cardiff have all been approached by Rodgers as he looks to secure Sterling some first team football. Blackpool have also been sounded out and a loan deal for Sterling could be a sweetener for a potential deal for Tom Ince.

‘Raheem has shown he can play at this level, but I gave him a week off to get away from football mentally and physically,’ said Rodgers in quotes taken from the Metro.

‘If the young players are good enough they will be involved in the squad, but I have to look at the individual plan to see if they can be here.’

‘Obviously, there might be people who aren’t playing who might want to think about going elsewhere, but at the moment it’s a strong squad.’
