Big Sam could be in for Big Bony

West Ham may well be seeking to find a replacement for on-loan striker Andy Carroll, who will be returning to Anfield in the summer unless the Hammers stump up around £17 million (his supposed valuation) for the ex-Newcastle man. Carroll is a much better fit in this West Ham side than he ever was at Liverpool, and has put in some decent performances for the East London club when fit, but it stands to reason that Big Sam may not want to be the next manager to cough up a hefty fee for a potentially hit-and-miss striker.

The solution (according to the Sun) could come in the form of 24-year-old, Ivory Coast and Vitesse striker Wilfried Bony. Yes, his name is Bony. No, it's not his fault, and yes, I'm sure – in fact, no, I'm absolutely certain that someone, somewhere has made him painfully aware of why people may find it amusing. We shall move on. Bony is the current top scorer in Holland this season, scoring 16 times in only 18 games. He, along with his international team-mates, were favourites to win the Africa Cup of Nations before their shock exit in the quarter-final round to an exuberant Nigeria. The strong, powerful striker would likely be valued at around £12 million – a full £5 million cheaper – and seems an equally good fit for the East London club.

So, Big Sam, it's your choice. Are you a gambling man? Because after what happened to the Reds, forking out for Carroll is definitely a gamble.
