Top flight clubs look at McGurk

Flying high at the top of League One, it is no surprise that Tranmere Rovers players are attracting attention.

According to Sky Sports, clubs from the Championship and the Premier League have scouted forward Adam McGurk, who has impressed at Prenton Park so far this season for the top-of-the-table side.  As well as facing a battle to stay in the title race, Tranmere may now also struggle to keep hold of one of their best players in the summer.

Born in Larne, Northern Ireland, McGurk first moved to England in 2004 when he joined Aston Villa.  After doing well in the Villains’ reserve squad, he suffered a serious injury which ruled him out for a long period of time.  He would eventually be released in early 2010, before going on to sign for Hednesford Town.

It was during the summer preceding the 2010/11 season that McGurk earned himself a deal at Tranmere, where he has scored 10 goals in 75 league games.  The 24-year-old’s performances during this campaign were recently recognised by his country, as he was called up for Northern Ireland’s friendly against Malta this week.

Considering he almost quit football after his injury-plagued spell at Villa, returning to the big leagues would be an incredible achievement for McGurk.
