Premier League interest in Pompey defender

Despite having made only a handful of appearances for Portsmouth, Dan Butler has done enough to make the top clubs have a look at him.

The 18-year-old defender signed his first professional deal with the South Coast club in June last year, having spent the previous two seasons in Pompey’s academy.  Unable to get a look-in at Fratton Park, Butler joined Havant & Waterlooville on loan in November.  He played eight games for the Conference South side, where his impressive performances saw him named player of the month twice during his short stay.

Since returning to Fratton Park, Butler has made his senior league debut for Portsmouth and become an important part of the team.  However, with Pompey in all sorts of trouble both financially and in terms of league position, he may not remain at the club beyond the summer.

Until the end of the season Portsmouth face a battle to stay in League One, something which will be a difficult task with their already depleted squad.  Whether they manage to avoid the drop or not, the experience will benefit the likes of Butler, who is set to have a promising future in the game.

With Sky Sports reporting top flight clubs tracking him, will the vultures be circling the youngster come May?
